Baby Zebra + A Pretty in Pink Nursery

To introduce the newest addition to our menagerie of baby animals, Baby Zebra, we sought to design a feminine nursery of soft pink, natural materials, and wood tones. For Baby Zebra’s nursery (the eigth in our Nursery Project series) Sharon drew inspiration straight from Baby Zebra –“She’s so sweet and if you look at her stripes where the white and black meet, she almost looks pink!” Says Sharon of her newest muse.

Designing the room in layers as she always does Sharon continues:  “I knew I wanted a wallpaper to compliment Baby Zebra without competing with her stripes or soft feel. The perfect wallpaper would be a tonal pink with a subtle pattern so it wouldn’t distract the eye from Baby Zebra.” Kremelife had the perfect palette and a pattern that fit the bill in their Diamondettes line.

And, for a touch of sophistication, Sharon adorned the dresser with a vintage brass tea light globe. “The globe light is on a dimmer and fills the room with a soft glow.” Perfect for taking advantage of the curated library and reading a bedtime story in the coral colored Togo chair by Ligne Roset. The sisal rug “really ties the room together,” kids Sharon ala The Big Lebowski. The space called for a round rug and she found the perfect one at West Elm.

With a nod to Safari themes, Baby Bengal Tiger, Lion Cub, Baby Monkey, and Baby Elephant hang above an Oeuf Rhea crib. “I’m kind of obsessed with macrame right now.” Sharon confesses. “I discovered Sara of The Forest Fern, who makes the most beautiful pieces, including the lantern style we selected for this space.”

The crib sheet is handmade by Petal and Branch. “It was a perfect match to the wallpaper without being too ‘matchy-matchy’, but still similar – I really love the soft feel and color.” Of the blanket, softies and trash can, Sharon explains, “The last details for me are not afterthoughts, but the final layer.” We love the blanket’s little pop of bright pink, and the two rascals in the crib: you can almost hear them scheming!

Our Newest Addition: Baby Wallaby.

In keeping with tradition, The Animal Print Shop is celebrating the release of its newest addition — bright-eyed Baby Wallaby — with a custom nursery designed to match her energetic spirit.

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose

When it came to designing the space, Sharon enlisted the help of her close friends Fitz and Su, the husband-and-wife team behind the living design store Fitzsu. In went a dose of gender-neutral color, with wooden wall hooks in yellow and pink; a mobile with a bright constellation of felted spheres; and a white oak crib whose citron support flips over to become a desk (for when sleeping infants transition to student-hood).

Adding to the atmosphere of lighthearted sophistication: a band of Donna Wilson lambswool animals; a woolen day bed; and smart, recycled-bottle storage bins soft enough for small fingers. (Two Print Shop mainstays — Duckling Little Darling and Baby Kangaroo Little Darling — make appearances, too.) Welcome home, Baby Wallaby.

Introducing Baby Rhino in a Soothing California Nursery.

We’re excited to introduce you to the newest member of our family, but we must warn you: He’s a bit of a brute – in the most charming way!

Meet Baby Rhino.

baby-rhino-nursery-design-ikea-crib-www.theanimalprintshop.com-02

To properly greet our new friend, Sharon designed a soothing California nursery based around pieces she loves. Since launching The Animal Print Shop Nursery Project, folks often seek our advice to help with a design direction for their own nurseries. Our answer is simple: there’s no right or wrong – pick pieces you love and find a way to put them all together. So for Baby Rhino’s Nursery, we followed our own advice.

Without an intentional design direction, Sharon picked the main pieces with one criteria in mind: she was drawn to them: a beautifully simple and affordable Ikea crib; a quirky, plush moroccan rug; a vintage mid-century dresser with clean lines and a touch of brass. Then we used paint color, small accent pieces, and baby basics to thread everything together–ending up with a soothing, sophisticated nursery that lends an element of child-friendly fun.

We’re happy with the result and think Baby Rhino is too! He joins a collection of joyful treasures new and old, including classic books, plush wildlife, wooden toys, and — fancy meeting him here — a familiar little yellow Duckling to keep him company.

Baby Deer Joins Our Little Darlings Family in a Spring Inspired Nursery

There’s no time like spring, and for the past couple months, we’ve been relishing its sunshine; its pure, crisp colors; and its new arrivals (birds, bees, budding trees!) as we’ve prepared to announce two of our very own: Baby Deer Little Darling, and a brand-new nursery designed to celebrate what we love most about the season.

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose

The latest addition to our Nursery Project series features bird-patterned wallpaper in shades of pink and gray; painted trim in robins egg blue echoes a sunny afternoon sky. A trio of familiar faces (with new Baby Deer Little Darling taking center stage) watch over a DwellStudio crib, while a ceramic pendant light by Jonathan Adler allows it all to shine.

Wolf Pups + a room for siblings!

It’s a room that brings the great outdoors in: our newest Animal Print Shop Nursery Project (this time designed for a pair of rambunctious and fun-loving siblings) was inspired by the myriad wonders of nature and the unforgettable experience of camping – the stuff so many sweet childhood memories are made of.

We’re also thrilled to introduce not one but four new prints to inspire the room’s design: Wolf Pup No. 1 and Wolf Pup No. 2Wolf Pup Pairand Wolf Pup Little Darling.

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose

Collaborating with Frances Merrill of Reath Design, who worked her magic using vintage furniture and accessories (bright bohemian rugs and a pair of hardy wooden beds, for example), patterned sheets from L.L. Bean, a beautiful log bench by Animal Print Shop favorites Monroe Workshopand a sturdy camp trunk for the safe stowage of toys to create a rustic, rugged aesthetic. A wash of forest-green paint, a woven hanging chair, and a bright yellow bedside lamp completed the scene. It’s just right, we think, for a pair of prankish pups, ready to play.

Baby Alpaca + another nursery project!

She made her first appearance this winter on Cup of Jo; and today, at long last, she’s ready for her debut. Meet Baby Alpaca, our newest fuzzy, doe-eyed friend. And as if her arrival wasn’t reason enough to celebrate, her much-anticipated debut coincides with the release of our third Animal Print Shop Nursery Project, Desert Modern.

This warm, sunlit room works in harmony with Baby Alpaca’s soft texture and sweet smile. A few of our favorite details are a vintage Moroccan rug, a jet-black Eames rocker, a Calder-style mobile, and a pendant light fixture strung with wooden beads. Oh, and one last extra-charming touch? We snuck in a wall of Little Darlings (look out for a new Baby Alpaca Little Darling  in there too!)

Baby Elephant Nursery Room Sources

We’ve been blown away by the response to this room–it’s such a great feeling. When we came up with the concept for The Animal Print Shop Nursery Project, our goal was to inspire our customers beyond the walls our prints hang on–and based on our inbox over the last week, we’ve acomplished that goal. “Where can I get that whale pillow?”–”what crib is that?”–”where do I find the floating changing table?”–”who makes the rocking chair?”–”what size is the baby elephant print?” Even though the room sources are listed at the bottom of the orginal post, it seems all the photos were too much of a distraction, so we whipped up a quick post dedicated to all the sources right here!

Finally, a baby elephant + a new nursery!

It may be small, but it packs a pretty-and tiny-fisted-punch. Clean, crisp, and sophisticated, baby Dash’s Los Angeles nursery is our second Animal Print Shop Nursery Project, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the finished room. (See our first nursery project, completed last fall, here.) But first, come on in…

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose

Dash’s parents, photographers Max and Margaux Wanger, are dear friends of The Animal Print Shop, and we’re longtime fans of the duo’s always-inspiring work. So when the two turned over total creative control of their little one’s room (a cozy nook in the corner of their charming Los Angeles home), we knew we had a welcome challenge on our hands.

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose

Especially exciting for us was the opportunity to design the room around the addition of our very own baby, Baby Elephant – a brand-new, much-anticipated Print Shop family member. “What’s better than a baby elephant?” says Max.

The Animal Print Shop by Sharon Montrose

We teamed up with designer Morgan Satterfield to create a bright, modern space fit for a design-savvy little man-in-the-making. Alongside Baby Elephant, hand-blocked curtains in black and gray, a custom-built floating dresser/changing table, and a modern wooden crib were our centerpieces; a one-of-a-kind mobile, a cheerful whale pillow, and a neon yellow tassel garland made for eye-catching accents.

“We love that Dash has such a colorful and happy space of his own,” says Margaux. “He’s going to love this.” We couldn’t be happier to hear it!

Many thanks to Max and Margaux for letting us take over their house for three days and trusting in us to deliver the goods (sorry about the grass!), The MinimalistOeufOneFortyThree, and especially Morgan Satterfield (we know, she’s a badass.)

New Release: Longhorn Steer Close-up

Known for their iconic horns, which can extend up to 7 feet tip to tip, the longhorn steer is a vision: strong, majestic, and remarkably gentle and sweet-natured for possessing such immense power. Welcome Longhorn Steer–we couldn’t be more pleased to add his peaceful presence to our collection.

Our Little darlings family is growing!

Whether wide-eyed and innocent (hello, Lion Cub), or sprightly and mischievous (we’re looking at you, Baby Monkey), one thing’s true of all our Little Darlings.

They’re simply adorable.

Launched last year, Little Darlings – The Animal Print Shop’s series of baby animal close-ups – has become one of our most beloved collections, especially as nursery art. And today, we’re adding to it with two charming new faces: Baby Camel and Baby Zebra.

In celebration of their arrival, we’re excited to share a brand-new video (with original music from The Watson Twins!) honoring the special relationships your Little Darlings form with our Little Darlings (Little Darlings are especially popular as nursery decor). Have a look for yourself and see what we’re talking about
